DRAWING TECHNIQUE

You’ll need paper and drawing tools. Crayons, magic markers, colored pencils are best. But in a pinch a simple pen or pencil will do. (I’ve done this on the back of a deposit slip with a stub of a pencil on an airplane trip, with great results.)

  1. What is the issue that is troubling you? Notice what you are feeling about it. Wallow in it.
  2. Draw how that feels. Forget all rules about how things should look and just draw how you are feeling. There may be recognizable figures or there may just be lines and color splashes.  Just let what happens happen.
  3. Does it feel complete?  If not add something.*
  4. Now do Frontal-Occipital Holding.  Put one hand on your forehead, one hand on the back of your head and let you head move.  It may sway, shake, bob, or just remain still.  Let it be the guide.
  5. After 2-4 minutes, or when you feel a kind of calmness come over you, make a second drawing.
  6. Look at it. Does it feel complete?  If not add something.
  7. What do you now believe about the issue you started with?

*When I am working with a client I check at each stage of this process to see if there is any information missing from one of the 4 layers – body, conscious, unconscious, and soul levels.
